Abstract | This booklet (one of a series of 10 booklets in a reading project to benefit Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky) contains 10 stories especially written for seventh graders by educators. The stories are about: young people with chronic conditions such as diabetes and epilepsy; accidents and accident prevention; children's reactions to various hospital experiences as well as to serious illnesses and deaths; attitudes toward personal differences caused by physical disabilities, birth defects, etc.; and similar topics. Students read the stories in the booklet and answer comprehension questions, and pledges are made by parents and friends for each question answered. The stories or story topics may be used in the classroom for instructional purposes and are intended to help integrate the language arts, social studies, health, and creative arts. (SR) |
