Abstract | This color-coded guide provides a curriculum and competency-based materials to help teachers teach job-seeking and job retention skills. The materials can be localized, personalized, and supplemented by teachers to fit the needs of students, area of study, and individual teaching and learning styles. The five units in the guide cover the following: (1) human relation skills; (2) personal employability skills; (3) communication skills; (4) mathematics skills; and (5) entrepreneurial skills. They are intended to complement curriculum in other content areas. Although the guide was developed for use in home economics classes, it is appropriate for use in many other curriculum areas. Each instructional unit follows a standard format that includes some or all of these basic components: competency list; cross-reference table of instructional materials; suggested activities; transparency masters; handouts; information sheets; assignment sheets; unit test; and answers to assignment sheets and unit test.
