Abstract | Designed to highlight business opportunities of the 1990s as well as available educational programs relating to international business, this report contains six presentations from a 1990 conference on international trade hosted by Midland College (MC). The first article, "Texas in the Global Economy: Attitude and Opportunity," by John A. Adams, Jr., focuses on Texas entrepreneurs and how Texas compares with other states in terms of exporting. Next, "How To Succeed in a Globally Competitive Market Environment," by Lee Gordon, examines strategies which the Midland area might utilize to take advantage of international business opportunities as part of its overall economic development. "Where To Find International Trade Answers," by David L. Dillard, presents sources of information on international trade, including periodicals, reference materials, and on-line databases. In "How Can the State Help Pay for My Exports?" Eduardo Sosa describes the four services available to Texas exporters through the Texas Export Finance Office. "The International Freight Forwarder," by Delbert R. Henry, reviews important considerations in choosing an international freight forwarder and in undertaking successful transport. The final article, "When and Why Do I Need Legal Advice To Export?" by Lawrence Johnson, examines the legal side of exporting, including dealer legislation, foreign exchange regulations, property rights, and tax and duty issues.
