AbstractStudying home economics can help young people face the challenges families are encountering in today's increasingly complex and ever changing world. The home economics curriculum strives to help students recognize that they, through individual as well as joint efforts, can improve the standards and conditions for all, thus leading to an improved quality of life for themselves, their families, and the rest of society. This curriculum guide is one of three composing the home economics curriculum for the province of Manitoba, as adopted in September, 1989. Part 1 gives an overview of the home economics curriculum including: program goals, program objectives, implementation strategies, scope and sequence chart, the design of the guide, and approved and recommended books for clothing, housing and design. Part 2 focuses on the specific areas of study: clothing, housing and design. Each of the three areas is subdivided into several concepts that are accompanied by major objectives. Each concept is further divided into subconcepts, with each subconcept including a generalization that refers to common, readily understood situations. Student objectives are intended to develop the ideas presented in the generalizations. Student activities help the students achieve the stated objectives. A bibliography is included. (DB)
