Abstract | This document describes the training of in-company trainers of young people in the United Kingdom (UK). Part 1 describes the context, including the focus and method of the UK study, the current situation for in-company training for young people, and the national context for training the trainers. Part 2 focuses on the following: characteristics, roles, and functions of in-company trainers of young people, views on attributes of trainers, training and development of in-company trainers of young people, provision of accredited training centers for in-company trainers, and the community dimension. Part 3 provides findings, conclusions, recommendations, and a summary of the project. A 24-item bibliography is included. Nine appendices provide a listing of companies and accredited training centers that cooperated in the research; interview schedules for training managers, trainers, trainees, and trade union representatives; the organization of training in selected companies; a summary of training for young people and for trainers in the companies; and the Code of Practice for Approved Training Organizations.
