Abstract | Dimensions of a rich and nurturing learning climate for the early childhood years are discussed. Contents focus on: (1) the early childhood scene; (2) the teacher's role in creating a positive learning climate; (3) the transition from home to school during the first few days of school; (4) the outdoor classroom; (5) school climate and staff interaction; and (6) the process of working with parents to create a positive learning climate. It is concluded that a positive school climate is reflected in the way the classroom is arranged for a rich, developmentally appropriate curriculum and in the way the staff work together on school activities. A positive school climate nurtures children, parents, teachers, and, above all, the love of learning. (RH) |
