| Abstract | In the development of a course in financial statement analysis, the following procedures were implemented: analysis of new accounting pronouncements, new textbooks, and articles on the topic of financial statement analysis; establishment of goals and objectives for the course; and selection of text and content of the course. The course was proposed through the proper channels and approved at all levels to be offered as part of the M.B.A program, meeting such goals and objectives as: preparing students for careers in finance; fostering clear and critical thinking; and providing students with the understanding and knowledge to properly interpret financial statements. A major recommendation in conjunction with the introduction of the course was that other finance oriented courses be introduced as quickly as possible. It was also recommended that the new course be available to students as quickly as possible and that any discussions and/or correspondence with persons in the business community include the information about the course. Two appendices are the Dowling College new course proposal form and the new course proposal for financial statement analysis. Contains 16 references and a bibliography with 31 entries. (SM) |
