Abstract | This document contains the text of the Montgomery G.I. Bill Amendments as reported from the Committee on Veterans' Affairs (May 25, 1989) and the Committee on Armed Services (September 26, 1989). Each part includes the changes to the G.I. Bill as recommended by that committee, a history of the proposed amendments to the bill, major provisions of the amendments, discussion of the proposed legislation, a section-by-section analysis of the amendments, cost estimates for implementation of the amendments, and the text of the proposed legislation. The bill would make a number of technical and clarifying amendments to the veterans' educational assistance programs; extend Vietnam-era G.I. Bill benefits to certain service academy and Senior Reserve Officer Training Corps graduates; increase the subsistence allowance for certain service-connected disabled veterans; and increase the educational assistance allowance for certain survivors and dependents.
