Abstract | This publication addresses the ways in which energy can be harnessed to improve the quality of human life. Seven units are included: (1) sundials; (2) solar houses; (3) greenhouse; (4) solar heaters; (5) windmills; (6) biomasses; and (7) photovolaic cells. Each unit contains six subheadings: objectives; introduction; presentation and investigation; association and systematization; application; and bibliography. Presentation and investigation, which form the main part of each unit, consist of a series of investigations to be carried out with the design and development of functional products of technology. The section on application addresses general problems to be solved within the community. All units involve the students in decision-making as well as in the design and production processes of a wide range of solar collection devices. Evaluation of each unit has been left to the individual teacher. (MVL) |
