| Abstract | This monograph discusses the current practices associated with the conduct of a research and experimentation program in technology education. It describes the background and bases of the program, the role of the teacher of research and experimentation, and advantages of the program. Next, the environment of the program is addressed, including the total school environment, the research and experimentation laboratory, and the philosophical environment of the school and community. Concerns about selection and screening procedures for the student population are then addressed. The next section discusses research procedures. The common model and a more limited approach are both outlined, and each element of a research report is described. A section on introducing the research and experimentation program explains sections of a research report, lists steps a teacher should take with a new group, and highlights objectives at this stage. The next section, on conducting the research and experimentation program, describes these phases: establishing goals, developing the research approach, helping students select a research problem, and conducting the research and experimentation of problems. Agendas are provided for research and experimentation seminars and progress seminars. Finally, suggestions are made for teacher evaluation of student performance. (YLB) |
