AbstractWritten by students for students, the purpose of the book, one of four components of the Model UN Survival kit, is to help prepare secondary and college student delegates for participation in Model United Nations (UN) Conferences. Model UN programs help students discover the difficulties of world political processes and understand other nations and cultural perspectives. Section 1 discusses how to prepare for a Model UN Conference. Section 2 presents regional perspectives on how different nations interact and provides basic political information on selected world regions and countries. Information on world regions is presented in specific chapters that focus on: (1) Africa; (2) Asia and the Pacific; (3) Eastern Europe and the USSR; (4) Latin America; (5) The Middle East; (6) North America; and (7) Western Europe. Section 3 provides the voting records and selected resolutions of the 42nd UN General Assembly (December 1987). Section 4 consists of an annotated bibliography of UN-related issues, while section 5 offers lists of UN Depository Libraries in North America and permanent missions to the UN with their New York (New York) addresses. Maps, charts, and bibliographies on world regions and countries are included. (JHP)
