Abstract	To address the economy's growing reliance on international business, San Diego State University has recently introduced a program in international commerce. The program was developed by packaging coursework in three existing areas: business administration, language training, and area studies. Although still in its infancy, the international commerce program has already proven itself popular with students seeking careers in international business. The university is now developing a more comprehensive approach to international commerce training. The curriculum is structured around several innovative modules. Students will begin the program in target language immersion. Participants will live together in a dormitory where all communication will be limited to the target language. For the first year of the program, the only language offered will be Spanish. During subsequent years, students will take coursework in area studies and business in the target language to reinforce the language skills they developed in their freshman year. Later in the program, students spend one semester abroad and participate in a business internship, an opportunity to apply the skills developed in the international commerce curriculum.
