Abstract | This guide provides procedures and information to assist local educators in improving or developing contemporary, comprehensive curricula in the field of agriculture education. Section 1 introduces seven agricultural employment clusters that the guide explores to show how rapidly career opportunities have expanded. Section 2 describes a process to effect sound curricular revisions and to adapt that process to apply specifically to curricular efforts in agriculture education. Section 3 applies these ideas in presenting a specific curriculum model and content units for agriculture education. Five sample units are included: dairy marketing, environmental conservation, exploratory course, forestry, and parliamentary procedure. Each unit contains a general description, objectives, competencies, subject matter outlines, and motivational and learning activities. Section 4 discusses specific delivery mechanisms: organizations (e.g., Future Farmers of America), advisory committees, problem-solving approach, and supervised occupational experience. Section 5 lists names and addresses of professional organizations, provides a professional checklist for instructors of agriculture and a chart of instructional resources by source (name and address) and type of material available, and presents a 10-item reference list. Appendixes include information and sample forms related to sex equity, reaching special needs students, and unit evaluation. (YLB) |
