Abstract | The teaching unit focuses on a month (November) of primary grade learning activities which focus on being thankful for food, family, and friends. Concepts stressed throughout the unit include: We are all part of the large family of Americans; Families are made up of a variety of people and our families are usually different from each other; Families work together to keep their home nice; Families play together and care about each other; Families celebrate having good food to eat by the feast of Thanksgiving; During Thanksgiving we have special foods such as turkey, cranberries, and sweet potatoes. Suggested books, movies, and a calendar of activities are provided. Provided for each activity is information on the content area, the age group, the activity (includes materials, special set-up, objectives to stress). Also provided on each activity sheet is space for recording individual students' expected responses to the activity. A variety of handouts and cutouts suitable for duplication are appended. The unit is intended to be used as part of a curriculum package which includes language boards and tape recordings. (DB) |
