| Abstract | The purpose of this booklet is to provide information for the job search process for elementary and secondary art education teachers, and it includes topics such as defining career goals, certification, the job search, interviews, resumes, and alternatives to public school teaching. To define career goals, several facts should be considered: (1) limitations in regard to geographic location; (2) ages and types of children the applicant wishes to teach; (3) personal ambition; and (4) salary requirements. Sample questions asked by the interviewee and questions the interviewer should ask are provided under "The Interview." Examples of a vita and letters of inquiry, a school district's response letter, a follow-up letter, and a thank you letter are also included. The "Alternatives to Public School Teaching" section discusses possible programs in continuing education, community colleges, day care centers, recreational programs, local arts councils, and teaching overseas. The appendices contain: (1) a listing of state certification offices; (2) guidelines on portfolio preparation; (3) sources for available positions; (4) a job application checklist; and (5) a checklist for interviews.
