Abstract | This chapter by chapter summary of legislation enacted by the 1988 New York State Legislature affecting education and the professions has been prepared for use by the education community. Additional legislation may be forthcoming because the Legislature was in temporary recess as of the publication of this report. Sections of the report include the following: (1) Laws Affecting School Districts Generally; (2) Boards of Cooperative Educational Services; (3) State Aid; (4) Taxation and Financial Administration; (5) Miscellaneous; (6) Laws of Local Application; (7) Higher Education; (8) Laws Affecting the Professions; and (9) Laws Affecting the Disabled. Laws are arranged by chapter number under each heading. The statements describing each chapter are necessarily brief and are intended to call attention to the subject matter of the legislation, rather than to provide a definitive review of all its provisions. Marginal captions indicate the major topic of each chapter. The complete text of each chapter may be found in the Session Laws of New York 1988, which is available in most law libraries. An index by chapter number is also included. (FMW) |
