Abstract | The ten papers in this document were presented at a week-long institute in 1982 and are published now because of concerns about recurring threats to intellectual freedom and First Amendment rights. Included are: (1) "Intellectual Freedom: The First Amendment and the Right To Know" (Dennis Day); (2) "How Conflicting Values Result in Challenges to Library Materials" (Nancy Motomatsu and Jean Wieman); (3) "The Legal View: The First Amendment and the Students' Right To Know" (Sherry Broder); (4) "The Role and Responsibility of the Legislator Regarding First Amendment Rights" (Mary George); (5) "Intellectual Freedom and the Right To Know: The Educator's Concerns" (Herman M. Aizawa); (6) "Intellectual Freedom and the Concerns of Religious Groups Regarding Library and Instructional Materials" (Cromwell Crawford); (7) "Public Education and the Christian Parent: New Opportunities for the Librarian" (Royal R. Fruehling; (8) "Christian Education and First Amendment Rights" (Daniel J. Dever); (9) "Creationism and Freedom of Choice: A Scientific View" (Sanford M. Siegel); and (10) "Professional Associations and Intellectual Freedom" (Sarah K. Vann). Several of the papers include bibliographic references. (EW) |
