Abstract | Intended both for teachers and for use in preservice programs in teacher education on the college and university level, this language arts curriculum for the elementary school is designed to enable teachers to develop objectives, learning experiences, and evaluation procedures which will provide for individual differences in the class setting, thus helping each learner to achieve optimally in the language arts. Chapters are as follows: (1) Objectives and the Learner; (2) Linguistics and the Language Arts Curriculum; (3) Reading and the Language Arts; (4) Poetry in the Elementary School; (5) Speaking Activities and the Pupil; (6) Vocabulary Development and the Pupil; (7) Handwriting and the Pupil; (8) Listening and the Pupil; (9) Spelling in the Curriculum; (10) Grouping Pupils for Instruction; (11) The Literature Curriculum; and (12) Evaluation of Achievement in Language Arts.
