| Abstract | This report, the second of seven, part of an interdisciplinary project on the context of reading and reading research that explores similarities and dissimilarities in the response to literature in readers from different cultures, describes the way in which potentially useful texts, i.e. folktales, were selected by team members. The report first specifies the criteria for the tales, in terms of length, authenticity, and provenance. The report then describes the selection procedure used for identifying three groups of potentially useful tales: three from Turkey, three from Denmark and five from Greenland. The background of each tale is given, along with a brief description of translation procedures, and then all the tales are printed, either in quasi-English translations, or in summaries. The report concludes with some generalized comments on the extent to which the aprioristic demands were met, and on the translation procedures.
