| Abstract | This discussion document from a symposium on shut out youth attempts to heighten awareness of the housing problems experienced by youth in Ireland. It is based on information obtained from a questionnaire sent to voluntary organizations working in local areas. It focuses on homelessness and its related issues of health, education, and the environment. The ten chapters are the following: (1) Introduction; (2) Who Are the Homeless? (3) Pointers to the Basic Needs of Homeless People; (4) Immediate Legislative and Administrative Reforms; (5) Young People and Homelessness; (6) A New Approach to Housing; (7) The European Dimension; (8) The UN International Year of Shelter for the Homeless; (9) Review of Young Fine Gael's Questionnaire; (10) Summary of Young Fine Gael's Recommendations. Three appendices include the survey instrument, response to a housing bill, and a summary of a basic income scheme. A bibliography is provided. (VM) |
