Abstract	The development of a data-based technical education curriculum at Western Kentucky University is described, with consideration of: assessment of the technical needs of the industrial community to identify topics for inclusion in the computer integrated manufacturing technology (CIMT) curriculum, assessment of available physical and human resources, assessment of the scope of each course and prerequisites, curriculum verification, and curriculum implementation. To determine the technical needs of the industrial community, a survey was developed and sent to 550 industries in Kentucky and Tennessee. Industry respondents ranked 85 topics that might be addressed by the CIMT curriculum. Projected equipment needs were identified based on the topics identified by the industrial community. To obtain required equipment, grants were written and industrial donations sought. The primary resource identified was faculty training. Faculty and industrial advisory committees evaluated the courses required in the CIMT program. Appendices provide: the CIMT survey, a list of proposed courses and content, and a list of courses by semester for the bachelor's level industrial technology major. 7 references. (SW)
