| Abstract | A discussion of computer authoring systems examines the uses and limitations of authoring systems and describes a multifunctional system designed for computer-assisted language instruction and learning. The section on authoring systems in general looks at their evolution and at misunderstandings of their potential and capacity. The system described, called DRILL, consists of three main modules that allow the teacher to write and organize exercises, allow the student to do them, and tabulate the results. It is language-independent and can be used at all educational levels. The main modules and their subfunctions are outlined, and some instructional features and advantages are noted. (MSE) |
