AbstractThis annotated bibliography of literature dealing with childhood stress begins with a discussion of the harmful effects of stress on children and the need for parents, teachers, and other adults in the children's lives to help themm learn about stress and develop stress management techniques. A glossary of relevant terms is provided. The bibliography itself contains 75 citations which are organized under the headings of: (1) Overview of Stress; (2) Studies and Literature Concerning Children's Stress; and (3) Stress Management Strategies. Entries in the first category deal with defining stress in children and common stressors and their effects. Entries in the second section examine family- and school-related stressors. Entries in the third section focus on children who cope, activities and techniques for stress management, and teacher and parent roles in helping children manage stress. A summary of information obtained from the research and literature review follows the bibliography. A list of 12 recommendations for parents and teachers interested in helping children cope with stress is given. Fifty-five references are included. (NB)
