Abstract | Concentrating on strategies for processing information, this guide provides a collection of models and techniques appropriate for differentiating the content and instructional procedures in the classroom, and is designed for use with intermediate academically talented students. The guide is divided into four sections--Differentiated Questioning, Critical Thinking, Creative Thinking, and Problem Solving. The section on differentiated questioning compares several different taxonomies, discusses Bloom's Taxonomy in detail, and suggests procedures for developing questions with students, including a divergent question model. In the critical thinking section, sample lessons are provided for semantics, logic, and authenticity, and includes resource/activity sheets for each lesson. The section on creative thinking covers the topics of fluency, flexibility, originality, elaboration, and evaluation strategies. Finally, the problem solving section discusses various problem solving strategies and models, such as inductive and deductive reasoning, synectics, and the Whole Mind Approach. All sections provide teacher self-evaluation forms and bibliographies for related readings. (MM) |
