Abstract | This overview of Japanese research on educational television and media education from the mid-1970s through 1985 begins by presenting a brief history of educational broadcasting and recent trends in broadcasting and related research in Japan. The following areas are reviewed: (1) research using program analysis; (2) research using test production and re-editing of programs; (3) research on teacher guidance and program effectiveness; (4) research on the measurement and evaluation of viewing abilities; (5) research on the development of viewing abilities; (6) development of curricula for media education; (7) development of new programs for very young children; and (8) practical studies by teachers on education by broadcasting. One English-language and 77 Japanese references are listed. (MES) |
