Abstract | This instructor's guide contains 18 lessons for teaching advanced dairying in accordance with the Missouri State Board of Education's Vocational Instructional Management System. To make the unit easier for teachers to use, the following materials are provided in the front of the unit: objectives and competencies for each lesson, a references and materials list, and a competency profile. Each of the 18 lessons contains the following components: teaching procedures, information sheets, study questions, evaluation test with answers, references, and transparency masters. The lessons cover the following topics: profitability of the dairy enterprise, production costs for dairy, comparative advantages of dairy, milk secretion, milking and sanitation procedures, dairy record and testing systems, marketing milk, marketing dairy replacements, local, state, and federal regulations for dairy, matching production to marketing, government programs for dairy, dairy associations and organizations, selecting breeding animals, reproductive management, facilities, and equipment, dairy herd health programs, feeding dairy animals, and using pasture and roughage.
