Abstract | The collective bargaining agreement between the Massachusetts Board of Regents of Higher Education and the Massachusetts Teachers Association Chapter of the National Education Association covering the period April 23, 1977-June 30, 1989 is presented. Items covered in the agreement include: unit recognition, dues check-off, board-union relationship, sick leave, early retirement compensation, holidays, paid and unpaid leaves of absence, vacation leave, insurance, tuition waiver, longevity recognition, day care, academic freedom, selection and duties of department chairpersons, participation in the decision-making process, roles of the president, Graduate Education Council, evaluation criteria and materials for faculty and librarians, evaluation procedures, evaluation of department chairpersons, evaluation by promotion and tenure committees, distinguished service awards and citations for meritorious service, tenure, retrenchment, academic program development, academic reorganization, grievance procedure, workload, scheduling and course assignments, salaries and academic rank adjustments, professional development programs, sabbatical leaves, access to personnel files, no strike/lockout pledge, and appointment and promotion.
