Abstract | This instructional unit deals with broadly based appreciation training in a range of skills that are appropriate to a wide sector of occupations, including engineering drawing, engineering materials, bench fitting, sheet metal work, turning, milling, welding, and electricity/electronics. The materials presented are intended for instructors and trainees to use as a reference work and self-teaching aid. The unit consists of an instructor guide booklet, two-part training guide, skill and training specification listing and checklist, booklet of trainee guide notes, off-the-job work record book, and work experience guide and log book. The two-part trainee guide contains instructional text covering the following topics: general safety; fire procedures; first aid; engineering drawings; care and use of measuring equipment; procedures in measuring and marking out; materials; hand tools; techniques in tapping and screwing; sheet metal work; techniques for joining, turning, and milling; oxyacetylene and manual metal arc welding, electricity, electrical conductors and wiring, solder, electronic components, and circuit boards.
