| Abstract | Reflecting the diversity and depth found in contemporary children's literature, this second volume in a series lists picture books, novels, and non-fiction books about strong children, both female and male, who, through experience and thoughtful observation, learn how to solve their problems independently. For easy access, the more than 600 titles have been divided into three broad age groups, and an age-grade chart precedes the bibliographic listings. Each section is further divided into fiction and non-fiction categories. The first section features books for the youngest children, from preschool ages to grade three. Titles for middle grade children appear in the second section, and junior high and high school age readers will find their selections in the third section. Each bibliographic citation consists of author(s), title, suggested age range, publication information, and a brief annotation. An afterword, a list of small press addresses, and author, title, and subject indexes conclude the volume. (SKC) |
