Abstract | This manual is intended to help teachers meet the objectives of the 1985 Alberta, Canada, Accounting 10-20-30 curriculum. The manual is organized in nine sections. The first section introduces the curriculum and lists the course objectives, and the following section provides a flowchart of the accounting modules. Information on planning the course, selecting modules for accounting, and student evaluation are provided in the next three sections. The sixth and seventh sections provide an introduction to teaching strategies and a sample daily lesson plan. Strategies for teaching the 13 modules of the course are presented in the eighth section, which makes up the bulk of the document. For each subtopic of the modules, suggestions are made for time, teaching methods, and evaluation. The 13 modules cover the following areas: basic accounting concepts, journalizing and posting, completing the accounting cycle, merchandise accounting, end-of-year adjustments and eight-column worksheets, optional accounting tasks, voucher system and end-of-year adjustments, departmentalized accounting tasks, partnership and corporation accounting, cost accounting, financial analysis, accounting simulation, and computerized accounting. A list of suggested learning resources comprises the final section of the manual. (KC) |
