AbstractInformation is presented about the administrative computing activities of colleges and universities belonging to CAUSE (the professional association for computing and information technology in higher education). Profiles and trends are provided based on 1985 Member Institution Profile Surveys conducted in 1980, 1983, and 1985. A total of 350 institutions responded in 1980, 318 in 1983, and 400 in 1985. Most of the data are summarized according to the responding institutions' political control (public or private), type (university, four-year or two-year), and size. Profiles cover computing organizations, staffing, budgeting, computer hardware and communications, and software used by the responding institutions. Trends include the following: administrative computing is reporting to a higher level in academic institutions; although most academic and administrative computing organizations are combined, there is some movement toward separation of these functions; and analyst/programming staffs are growing, while operations and systems programming staffs are declining. Appended are a list of participating institutions and a 1985 survey form. (SW)
