| Abstract | The implementation of a developmental kindergarten program designed to address the needs of kindergarten children with learning and behavior problems was resisted by parents. As a result, a practicum was designed for teachers to (1) provide information needed to improve skills necessary for conferences with parents regarding developmental placement programs, and (2) increase understanding that some kinds of school problems can be solved through the successful implementation of developmental programs. Supplemented by posters and informative handouts, intervention consisted of a slide presentation picturing children engaged in various learning activities in a developmental kindergarten classroom and an accompanying cassette-recorded text explaining the cognitive learning benefits of a play-center style of classroom environment and accentuating the positive aspects of developmental theory. The presentation was made to 450 parents, teachers, and other interested viewers at public schools, preschools, day care centers, and teacher in-service meetings in a rapidly growing Florida school district. The goal of the intervention was that 80 percent of teachers and others viewing the slide presentation would demonstrate increased knowledge regarding such classroom activities.
