Abstract	This guide is intended to assist teachers in using a companion health career reference as a class text for introducing students to the health field. The first two sections describe the purposes and organization of the companion guide. Discussed next are ways of helping students explore health career opportunities and options and come to understand that both health careers and their personal and career goals will change over time. The third part deals with using the guide in the classroom and includes plans for conducting learning activities dealing with the following topics: the scope of the health field, health needs and trends, ways of combining skills and interests, health employment opportunities in the local community, procedures in planning a course of study, and skills and qualifications (and ways of highlighting these in job interviews and on job applications). The companion guide covers working in the health field and planning a career as well as opportunities and skill, interest, and educational requirements in occupations in clinical laboratory, dental, dietetic and nutritional, eye care, health administration, clerical and support, health education and community, information and communication, medical instrumentation and machine operation, medical, nursing and physician extender, pharmaceutical, and rehabilitation services.
