Abstract | Realizing that the day-to-day lives of the average citizens and the destinies of nations are being influenced by growing international, cross-cultural links, there is a need to cultivate in young people a world perspective which emphasizes the interconnections among cultures, species, and the planet. This paper surveys the background of global education and discusses the case for global perspectives in education. The major concepts of global education are presented along with suggestions on how they may be integrated with or fused into the social studies curriculum. A variety of teaching methods and learning activities are suggested and sample lesson plans are provided. Lists of references, resource materials, and organizations are included. (KWL) |
