Abstract | The articles in this journal issue explore the use of literature in instruction and, particularly, the characterization of women in literature. The titles of the articles and their authors are as follows: (1) "George Orwell and the Politics of Misogyny" (Robert Keith Miller); (2) "Women and Huckleberry Finn: A Literary Criticism" (Linda Roehrig Knapp); (3) "Hester: A View of Strength" (Anne Chaffee White); (4) "Form and Substance: Teaching the Short Story" (Ann O. Gebhard); (5) "Using Literature to Teach Expository Writing" (Sister Mary C. Krauss); (6) "Talking Reading" (Fred Barton); and (7) "Thematic Overtones in 'Heart of Darkness'" (Rita Rathburn). Reviews of selected books for children, adolescents, and teachers are included. (HTH) |
