Abstract | A conference on science and technology and future human needs was attended by over 300 science educators from 64 countries. Educators with particular interest in primary science and technology education extended their stay for an additional seminar. This report highlights the events of that seminar. Contents include: (1) recent and on-going work in primary science by international organizations (reviewing programs of the International Council of Scientific Unions, UNESCO, and the International Council of Associations for Science Education); (2) workshop events (summarizing topic group reports on the environment; food and agriculture; industry and technology; energy, land, water and mineral resources; health; information technology; and ethics and social responsibility); (3) workshop products (providing ideas on inservice experiences, program construction, and a suitable climate for primary science); and (4) future considerations (identifying educational needs and goals). Appendices include a participant list and examples of student activities. (ML) |
