Abstract	This document is the first volume of a six-volume report on sexuality education. This volume summarizes the structure and content of sexuality education in the United States, reviews the literature on the effects of sexuality education, describes the evaluation methods, provides a description of and the evaluation data for each program, and summarizes the effectiveness of different approaches in meeting different goals. The four chapters in part I provide overviews of the evaluation research and of major trends and characteristics of sexuality education as well as a review of the effects of junior and senior high school sexuality education programs. Part II contains the evaluation of four comprehensive programs at University City High School (Missouri), Council Rock High School (Pennsylvania), George Mason High School (Virginia), and Ferndale Elementary and High Schools (California). Part III contains evaluations of two short school programs at the Family Guidance Center (FGC) in St. Joseph, Missouri and the Planned Parenthood Center of San Antonio, Texas. Part IV contains an evaluation of Lakeview Center (Pensacola, Florida), a short nonschool program. Part V evaluates two conferences, one at the St. Joseph FGC and the other at the Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts. Part V evaluates the Planned Parenthood Center of San Antonio peer education program. The FGC parent/child program and the St. Paul-Ramsey Hospital Maternal and Infant Care inschool clinic program (St. Paul, Minnesota) are evaluated in parts VII and VIII respectively.
