Abstract | This paper reports the development of a test battery to replace the structural testing used in Kuwait to assess skills acquired in the communicatively-based Crescent English Course. A list of activities and tasks required of students at level six was drawn from the course syllabus, and four modules containing clusters of integrated language tasks linked by a theme and based on English language situations encountered in Kuwait were designed. Each module contains four tasks with specific skill objectives and two possible configurations to provide alternative test forms. Pilot testing was done in 10 Kuwaiti and 2 British secondary schools, for validation and to obtain a performance model. The scoring system and procedures were expanded and standardized based on those results. Validity and reliability of the battery are being investigated. (MSE) |
