AbstractThe manual provides information on alternative testing techniques for students identified as handicapped. The first section discusses the legal basis for the use of alternative testing techniques, as well as student eligibility. Section 2 provides examples of test modifications in the following areas: (1) manner of presentation (flexible scheduling, flexible setting, revised test format and directions, use of aids); (2) manner of response (use of aids, revised answer forms); (3) process used to derive responses (use of aids). Section 3 describes different types of tests as they relate to the appropriate use of alternative testing techniques and provides information on modifications which are prohibited with specific tests. Roles and responsibilities of those involved in the testing process (Board of Education, Committee on the Handicapped, principal, regular and special class teachers, parents) are described in Section 4. A final section lists resources which provide information on the New York State testing program and other tests. (JW)
