| Abstract | An assessment of the status of environmental education and perspectives on its future direction are presented in this report of the Netherlands' Commission on Environmental Education (CEE). Viewpoints and analyses are offered for the purpose of stimulating discussions and providing recommendations for the development of environmental education. Major sections include: (1) reasons for a new assessment (reviewing previous ideas and points of view on environmental education); (2) consideration of the developing field of environmental education (examining external influences and internal developments which have affected environmental education and offering the primary objective as formulated by CEE for environmental education for the present); (3) starting-points for an educational method (addressing the methods, goals, and processes of environmental education); and (4) starting-points for further recommendations (identifying target groups and suggesting priorities for future examination). Appendices include a bibliography of ten references and an explanation of terms used in the report. (ML) |
