Abstract	This statement prepared by the International Federation of Library Associations' Section of University Libraries and Other General Research Libraries presents standards of general principles designed to accomplish the following: (1) provide a means by which the quality of the library serving a university can be assessed; (2) offer guidance for improvements in the library; and (3) suggest a framework within which various countries or regions could develop their own statements of standards. Standards are established for the following aspects of university libraries: (1) purpose, (2) organization and administration, (3) services, (4) collections, (5) staff, (6) facilities, (7) budget and finance, (8) technology, (9) preservation and conservation, and (10) cooperation.
