Abstract | This guide is intended to assist vocational training placement personnel responsible for recruiting, counseling, or providing vocational services to disadvantaged or unemployed clients of a Job Training Partnership Act program. The manual is a compilation of verified vocational educational activities related to job placement and followup activities, which are presented in two major chapters. The first of these (chapter 5) contains job activities for the placement personnel, and the second of these (chapter 6) covers job placement competencies for program clients. Explanations, instructional material, and examples are provided for the following job activities of placement specialists: interviewing, coaching, and updating clients; maintaining daily contact with clients and employers; and planning and executing business advisory meetings. Measurable objectives are provided for 17 job placement competencies for program clients, including job search, application, and retention. Developing a placement followup system and evaluating and field-testing a placement program are also addressed. Appendixes to the manual include a list of placement specialist competencies; sample interview, application, and student assessment forms; sample maps; grooming checklists; a model client portfolio; project-related correspondence and record forms; a decision-making progress chart; and materials for use with employers and advisory committees.
