Abstract | Drawing from evaluations submitted by staff, students, and parents, this report assesses Florida Junior College (FJC) at Jacksonville's College Reach-Out Program, a student recruitment effort focusing on increasing enrollment from predominately black high schools and junior high schools, in terms of the project's 11 performance objectives: (1) program publicity; (2) identification of targeted students; (3) non-academic skills assessment; (4) academic skills assessment; (5) academic components; (6) individual summary evaluations; (7) counseling and advice on college entrance; (8) workshops for parents; (9) role models; (10) cultural and recreational activities; and (11) program evaluation by students, parents, and project staff. A summary section addresses overall program administration and structure, including recommendations for program improvement, focusing on increased coordination and planning among different components of College Reach-Out and other retention programs at FJC; adjustments to the program calendar and schedule; and incorporation of some additional elements to increase student and staff motivation.
