Abstract | This report discusses activities directly linked with the implementation of the education action program set up in February 1976 by the Council of the European Communities and Ministers of Education. Activities relating to the pursuit of the European Community's vocational training policies are also addressed. Chapter I gives an account of the main political developments that arose during 1983 and 1984 as a result of decisions taken by the institutions of the European Community and of new guidelines given by the European Council. Chapter II highlights the main actions developed in the European Community in these fields: comparison of educational policies and promotion of closer relations between education systems, development of vocational training policies and comparability of vocational training qualifications, transition from education to working life, impact of new information technologies on education and vocational training, equal opportunities for males and females in education, education of young disabled persons, migrant child education, measures to combat illiteracy, foreign language teaching, cooperation in the higher education field, recognition of academic diplomas and periods of study, youth exchanges and relations with youth organizations, and relations with organizations representing teachers, teacher training organizations, and parent-school associations. Chapter III summarizes the main forms of cooperation with the international organizations active in education. (YLB) |
