AbstractIn 1973, Tennessee Technological University developed and implemented a model for systematic data gathering and for evaluating its teacher education programs. During the twelfth year (1984-85) of the operation of the project, three distinct groups of graduates who had completed either the bachelor or master's degree program were studied. The basic instruments included were: (1) University records; (2) principals' evaluations; (3) the California F-Scale; (4) a measure of satisfaction of the students taught by graduates; and (5) classroom observations. The study's major findings for the first-year subjects were similar to those reported in the past 11 years of the study. Comparisons between bachelor and master's degree graduates indicated few significant differences; although, in general, bachelor degree students appeared to be functioning at a slightly higher level than the master's degree graduates. This was in opposition to findings of previous years. Based on the results of the study and the applications that have been made, the model has become a permanent operational feature of the teacher education programs at Tennessee Technological University.
