Abstract | Rockland Community College's Special Services Project (SSP) provides supplemental instructional and counseling services for educationally and economically disadvantaged students in the College Skills Program, remedial/developmental program, and the English as a Second Language (ESL) program. This report focuses on the first year (1980-81) of the second cycle of the project (1980-84), providing information on clientele characteristics, program sites, needs assessment, curriculum development, counseling, staff development, student outcomes, and program evaluation. The bulk of the report consists of appendices, including: (1) a typology of SSP students; (2) a revised contract for educational services; (3) a list of curriculum projects undertaken during the year; (4) a revised taxonomy of new materials for teaching and counseling; (5) a sample communication skills contract; (6) a basic mathematics pre-test/post-test; and (7) materials concerning the College Skills Festival.
