AbstractProceedings of the North Country Workshop on Science, Technology, and the Undergraduate Curriculum are presented. The Sloan Foundation's call for reform of the liberal arts and coverage of mathematics, science, and technology is noted in welcoming remarks by State University of New York, Potsdam, President Humphrey Tonkin. Stephen H. Cutcliffe considers the development of the science, technology, and society (STS) field and recent interest in scientific and technological literacy in "Science, Technology and the Undergraduate Curriculum: Where Are We Nationally?" Curricular goals and ways to achieve them are also addressed, and a list of journals (and addresses) on STS topics is provided. In "Scientism and the New Liberal Arts," Richard H. Robbins explores the implications of scientism for both public policy and the U.S. value system, and the relationship between science and technology encompassed by the new liberal arts. Neal R. O'Brien describes an interdisciplinary course covering key scientific issues in "A Discussion of the Science in Society Course at Potsdam College." Finally, Robert Keesey's paper covers "The School-Within-the-School Program of the State University College of New York at Potsdam: An Experimental, Interdisciplinary, General Education Core." A syllabus and required reading list for the 20 semester-hour freshman core are included. (SW)
