Abstract	Developed to help students learn to read for purpose as well as for pleasure, these study units involving individual novels can be used as one-month or nine-week units, depending on the number of books assigned and the ability of the students. Test items and answer keys are provided for 28 titles, which include "Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl"; "Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret"; "The Arm of the Starfish"; "Black Beauty"; "Black Hearts at Battersea"; "The Boy Who Could Make Himself Disappear"; "The Contender"; "Dinky Hocker Shoots Smack"; "Freaky Friday"; "Hitchhike"; "The Hobbit"; "The Outsiders"; "P.S., Write Soon"; "Rumble Fish"; "The Slavedancer"; "The Spuddy"; "Tex"; "That Was Then, This Is Now"; "Tiger Eyes"; "Up a Road Slowly"; "Viva Chicano"; "West Side Story"; "Where the Red Fern Grows"; "Wrinkle in Time"; and "Z for Zachariah." Following these units four student-developed units and answer keys for "Bridge to Terabithia,""The Cay,""Dreamland Lake," and "The Pigman." The appropriate reading grade levels from grade 4 through grade 8 are indicated for each title. A reading list and a list of resources are included. (EL)
