Abstract	The monograph resulted from the Switzer Memorial Seminar which brought together 20 persons recognized for their achievements in rehabilitation. Five action papers formed the foundation for the program: "Social Influences on Rehabilitation: Introductory Remarks" (E. Berkowitz); "Trends and Demographic Studies on Programs for Disabled Persons" (L. Haber); "The Politics of Disability: Future Trends as Shaped by Current Realities" (W. Roth); "Changing Perception of Disability and the Future of Rehabilitation" (H. Hahn); "Ethical Considerations Facing Society in Rehabilitating Severely Disabled Persons" (J. Noble). Each of the action papers is followed by excerpts of reviews and comments made by participants. A summary of recommendations related to the topic of chapter five is given at the end of the document following six brief special papers: "The Competitive Marketplace: A Partnership with the Rehabilitation Community is Needed Now More Than Ever" (A. Colby); "Economics, Rehabilitation and the Post-Industrial Society" (R. Ehrle); "Some Thoughts on Independence" (M. Nosek); "A Response to the 'Changing Perception of Disability and the Future of Rehabilitation'" (L. McConnell); "The Emerging Role of Disabled Hispanics" (A. Suazo). (CL)
