AbstractCharacteristics and career/educational plans of 95 students who graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 1984 were investigated. Fifty-seven percent earned the bachelor of arts degree, 41 percent the bachelor of science degree, and 2 percent the associate's degree. Only three students were not white, and 80 percent were single. At the time of graduation 31 percent had accepted full-time employment, while 17 percent were working part-time. The median salary for the sample was $15,000. Among additional findings were that: graduates who accepted full-time employment were more likely to be single males with a grade point average (GPA) of 2.51-3.0; 31 percent of those who accepted a job, said it was related to their career objective; 34 percent learned of their job opportunity through family or friends, while 17 percent discovered the job through the career planning and placement service; 16 percent of the graduates were seeking further studies during the summer or fall of 1984; graduates continuing their education full-time were more likely to be single females with a GPA of 3.0-3.5; and 53 percent were enrolled in master's programs. In the data are included the incomes on graduates by college major and the number of graduates continuing education by major. (SW)
